Term 2 Week 1 Newsletter
From the Principal
Dear Calwell Families,
Welcome to Term 2. It’s great that things are finally starting to settle back into a more familiar routine and we are looking forward to a positive and productive term of learning and activities. Term Overviews will be sent home next week, detailing the class programs for the term.
Our Year 3 & 5 students will be completing NAPLAN testing starting in week 4. This term there are a number of excursions and incursions planned for various year cohorts, combined Band rehearsals, sport clinics and assemblies to look forward to, as well as a disco and Movie Night. The term will wind up with mid-year reporting.
Library Modification
The library will be closed for a short period this term in order to make an internal layout change. The solid half wall will be removed to open the space completely. We are waiting to hear when work will commence, however it could be as early as next week. As soon as we are informed of the duration of the work we will clarify arrangements for students and staff.
Friendly Reminders
Wearing the school uniform strengthens the Team Calwell culture. Please support the school by ensuring your child attends school in uniform each day. The new Team Calwell hoodie is proving very popular. The front office can provide all uniform information.
All absences require an explanation. Please send in a note to your child’s class teacher or respond to the automated absence message sent to you providing a reason for your child’s absence. Arriving to school late regularly impacts significantly on learning so we encourage all students to arrive at school before the 9am bell.
To support the well-being and health of students and staff we ask that students who are sick, particularly with cold and flu symptoms stay home. It is extremely difficult to find relief staff so avoiding sickness is our best option.
Student safety is always a high priority, please continue to be mindful of driving through the school car park carefully and avoid parking adjacent to the pedestrian crossing on Downard St. We are still awaiting the installation of bollards. Please be aware that it is an offence to park on the nature strip and cars have been fined last term.
Staffing News
A warm welcome to Jacqui Deacon and Jessica Conrick who are joining our Learning Support Team. Jacqui Anderson is on extended leave for several weeks this term and we are delighted that Karen Gardner will be filling her role during her absence. Our Learning Support Team (LSAs) make a very valuable contribution to the school and we are very fortunate to have such an experienced and capable team.
