Kindergarten have enjoyed their first week at school. They have been busy learning about being in Kindy and the day to day routines and procedures. We have also been engaged in some fun getting to know you games and art activities.
This week Kindergarten have been learning all about Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL). Both classes have started looking at ways they can be safe, respectful, learners at school.

Year 1
In Year 1, we have been exploring the Learning Assets. Students have been engaging in activities where they can use the 5 assets: Thinker, Researcher, Communicator, Collaborator and Self-Manager. Learning assets are necessary in building skills to ask questions, communicate effectively, work with others and being resilient.
Year 2
Year 2 have been busy completing team work activities over the first week of 2021! These activities include playing office tennis, building paddle pop and peg towers, dictionary hunts and a hoola hoop challenge. Throughout all of these challenges we have been using the Learning Assets being Collaborators, Communicators, Thinkers, Self-Managers and Researchers.
Year 1
Year 2
Googong
We have welcomed back the students with some great learning and team building activities.
Students have had opportunities to get to know their classmates and teachers through ‘Mystery Heads’, where they had to give clues about themselves.
We had a great time sharing our summertime adventures through our creative artwork and writing titled ‘Summer Shades’.
Bendora
Year 5 and 6 have spent week 1 getting to know each other. We have worked as collaborators to share facts about us and our interests. We used our creative minds to make an artwork sharing all about ourselves.
Swimming Time Trials
Swimming time trials will be held for competitors only on Thursday 11th February 9am-11am at Lakeside Leisure Centre.
Craft Club
For the families who have been at Calwell in previous years, you may have become accustomed to your child arriving home on a Monday with their own unique piece of craft that they made at the lunchtime Craft Club. By the end of Monday lunch time, we have a range of super heroes, animals and royalty incognito behind their carefully coloured and decorated face masks, budding aviation engineers competing in paper plane races and a range of collage art pieces (most very well endowed with glue) for display on the fridge at home.
Our Monday lunch time Craft Club has been running for many years, with activities prepared and led by a small team of parents and carers between 11am and 11:50am. In 2021 we hope that you may be willing to assist us to continue this much-loved activity for our students.
So, what’s involved?
During Craft Club a range of activities are set out for the students, including:
- colouring in face masks, birthday cards – very popular with our younger students
- paper aeroplane construction – easy to follow instructions provided
- collage/freehand art – lots of glue!
- Seasonal themed craft activities (e.g. Easter, Mothers/Father’s Day, Christmas etc)
Parent/carer helpers provide assistance to students as needed, such as tying elastic on facemasks and guidance with paper aeroplane folding – no craft skills required! Students are actively encouraged to contribute to cleaning up before leaving Craft Club, so there is only a small amount of tidying up to be done.
If you are unable to support Craft Club in person on a Monday, we’d love your help with preparing activities (which can be done at home anytime) such as cutting out facemasks, folding birthday cards and others.
To find out more and to join the Craft Club team, please let the staff at the Front Office know.
